<p>The NHL&#8217;s department of player safety has fined <a href="http://canucksarmy.com">Vancouver Canucks</a> defenceman Tyler Myers $2,500 for a cup-check slash on <a href="http://oilersnation.com/stats">Edmonton Oilers</a> captain Connor McDavid.</p>

<p>The incident happened nearly halfway through <a href="https://oilersnation.com/2025/10/12/noah-philps-first-nhl-goal-goalie-envy-alec-regula-edmonton-oilers-lineup/">Saturday night&#8217;s game</a> between the two teams. McDavid skated down to the left side of the Canucks&#8217; net, when Myers turned to face him, lifting his stick between McDavid&#8217;s legs.</p>
<p>McDavid hit the ice in understandable discomfort, but got up shortly after rejoining the play. And while that wasn&#8217;t called a penalty on the ice, Myers found his way into the sin bin 46 seconds later, taking a delay of game penalty.</p>

<p>Myers also <a href="https://oilersnation.com/2025/10/12/the-day-after-2-0-edmonton-oilers-lose-streets-beat-vancouver-canucks-scoresheet/">made noise Saturday for a huge hit</a> on Oilers winger Trent Frederic at the Vancouver blueline, as former Oiler Evander Kane laid a few punishing hits of his own on Oilers defenceman Alec Regula.</p>
<p>Games between the Oilers and Canucks that have seen the department of player safety get involved is nothing new. In fact, <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/theres-frustration-thats-allowed-to-happen-oilers-speak-out-after-connor-mcdavid-cross-checks-canucks-garland">after a game in January</a> last season, McDavid and Myers were each suspended for three games for cross-checking. Connor Garland had hauled McDavid to the ice and wouldn&#8217;t let him up, leading the Oilers captain to retaliate, as Myers cross-checked Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard in the face shortly thereafter.</p>

<p>The first meeting of this season clearly brought some fireworks and it won&#8217;t be long until these two teams meet again. Edmonton will visit Vancouver on October 26th, and on January 17th, 2026, while the Canucks will visit Alberta&#8217;s capital in the Oilers&#8217; final regular season game on April 16th, 2026.</p>
