<p>According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the team is working on an <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/what-is-successful-season-edmonton-oilers-jake-walman">extension with defenceman Jake Walman</a>, with the team hoping to ink the 29-year-old for a longer period of time.</p>

The Toronto native is heading into the final season of a three-year contract, which he signed as a member of the Detroit Red Wings in February 2023. The deal carries a cap hit of $3.4 million, with a modified no-trade clause where Walman submits a 10-team no-trade list.</p>
<p>Walman came to the Oilers at the trade deadline, as part of a deal with the San Jose Sharks. He finished off what was a career season in Edmonton, scoring eight points in 15 games for the Oilers, finishing the 2024-25 campaign with a career-high 33 assists and 40 points in 65 games. He ended up adding two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 22 postseason games.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s no question that Walman being brought into the fold made an impact on the team as they went to a second consecutive appearance in the Stanley Cup Final, despite the Oilers falling to the Florida Panthers for the second year in a row.</p>
<p>Getting Walman on the books for an extended period of time would give the team some security on the back end for the foreseeable future. Of the rearguards listed on the active roster, only Evan Bouchard, Darnell Nurse, and Ty Emberson are signed beyond the coming season, and Emberson is only on board <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/edmonton-oilers-sign-ty-emberson-two-year-extension">through the 2026-27 season</a>.</p>
