<p>The Edmonton Oilers will be without Jake Walman and <a href="https://oilersnation.com/2025/10/10/jack-roslovic-contract-edmonton-oilers-curious-trade-clause/">Jack Roslovic</a> Saturday night when they host the Vancouver Canucks.</p>

<p>Walman, 28, missed the majority of the pre-season, dealing with an undisclosed injury and was <a href="https://oilersnation.com/news/oilers-place-defenceman-jake-walman-on-injured-reserve">placed on the injured reserve</a> Thursday. It was made retroactive to Wednesday, so the soonest he can return is next Thursday when the Oilers pay a visit to the New York Islanders.</p>
<p>Defenceman Darnell Nurse missed practice on Friday due to illness, but will play Saturday.</p>

<p>The Oilers will also be without the newest member of the organization, <a href="https://oilersnation.com/2025/10/09/tough-roster-decisions-inbound-edmonton-oilers-jack-roslovic-in-the-mix/">Jack Roslovic</a>, as he gets his feet underneath him. He spoke with the media in Edmonton on Friday, saying he&#8217;s spent the summer working hard to get ready for the season.</p>
<p>Head coach Kris Knoblauch said they aren&#8217;t in a rush to get him into the lineup.</p>
<p>&#8220;Jack has been physically cleared. Medically, he&#8217;s good to play,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I&#8217;m not sure it&#8217;s best to put him in immediately. I think he needs to get a couple practices in and then play sometime during the New York trip.&#8221;</p>
<p>Though he may be medically cleared, Knoblauch said there are other things to work through with Roslovic.</p>
<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s some extra meetings, pretty much catching him up,&#8221; said Knoblauch. &#8220;Everything that he missed through training camp. So no matter what, we get a player in October or maybe at the deadline in March, they got to catch up on what we&#8217;re doing in systems.</p>
<p>&#8220;You need to show them some of that stuff but not overwhelm him and show him every little detail. But, you know, he&#8217;s got to know what our forecheck is, what we&#8217;re trying to do in the neutral zone, defensive zone, obviously, those things. So there&#8217;s some time spent with coaches and getting up to speed.&#8221;</p>
<p>After hosting the Canucks Saturday, the Oilers will begin their first road trip of the season, heading out east for five games. It kicks off Tuesday visiting the New York Rangers, before stops to see the Islanders, New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings.</p>
