It&#8217;s another Wednesday in the middle of the NHL dead zone, which means a fresh episode of <a href="https://oilersnation.com/category/better-lait-than-never">Better Lait Than Never</a> is ready to recap what was another non-event news week in Edmonton. On today&#8217;s podcast, I discussed <a href="https://publish.oilersnation.com/2025/08/27/connor-mcdavid-all-options-are-on-the-table-contract-extension-edmonton-oilers-every-intention-to-win-in-edmonton/">Connor McDavid&#8217;s contract extension</a>, Northlands Coliseum memories, some player retirements, and whatever else has happened over the last seven days.
There still isn&#8217;t much happening in Edmonton Oilers land these days, but with Connor McDavid back in town ahead of Team Canada orientation camp, the contract talk has already started to pick back up. Not only did McDavid talk about his potential extension today, but we also heard from Elliotte Friedman on what he expects the timeline to look like for the captain&#8217;s renewal. Changing gears, I also spent a few minutes talking about the upcoming Rexall Place/Northlands Coliseum demolition that is scheduled for 2026 and how it&#8217;s going to be sad to see the old barn get knocked down, even though we haven&#8217;t been there in years.
Finally, I wrapped up this week&#8217;s episode of BLTN with a guest Righteous Sack Beating before wrapping up the podcast with another round of voicemails.
